How on earth did you get hooked up with PS Publishing from way over there into the little town of Hornsea? It's just a little hop and skip down the motorway (freeway) from my humble digs. Small world 🌍
Found it! It was in Full Throttle. I went to Hornsea as a 8 year old for a 5 day school stay over where boys slept in one big dorm and girls in another. I remember terrifying each other with tales of "The Blue Lady" who haunted the dorms and grounds !! Scated ourselves stupid - had a great teacher who joined in - ghosts and ghouls from such a young age!!
I just watched a strange book trailer for King Sorrow on YouTube. It appears to be made, ‘artificially’. Did you make this thing? If not, check it out if you get the chance.
Random question: how long in advance do you think you’ll announce your book tour/signing events for King Sorrow? I’m visiting the States in about a year (mid Feb-mid March 26) and I’d love to fit in a visit to any place you’re presenting the book. (Ps. I’ve already preordered the signed edition, but I’d still love the chance). Thanks!
Just wanted to let you know how much I enjoy your newsletters - not just the updates themselves but your friendly, conversational voice and humerous (and relatable!) anecdotes. 20th Century Ghosts ... one of my all time favorite reads and the book I brought for you to sign at a local library event a couple of years ago over here in Maine (thank you!). Please keep the occasional updates coming as you can - they are truly appreciated!
Stay healthy Joe. I am really looking forward to King Sorrow. When you have time you should look into the: Lego ‘Wall-E’ set. Then consider adding it to your list of Lego sets you want to build.
I can’t believe so much time has flown. I’ve bought and “loaned” a few copies of 20th Century Ghosts over the years (we all know what “loaning” a book means to that space on your shelf). I think it’s time to get myself a new copy, just for me. I love that book.
Hello Joe, I have a huge request. Please expand on the world of "Faun" - tell more tales! That story kicked my ass. I loved it so much. On the subject of "more" - I also adored the story "All I care about it you" and if you were ever inclined to write more about that society that has the clockworks, I'd be more than happy to read it. Thanks for the hours of great reading I have enjoyed thanks to you, and here's hoping for a lot of Joe Hill reading in the future. Best health to you and your family. (PS - I know those two stories are from Full Throttle and not 20th Century Ghosts) :)
You know, actually, I do have plans to return to the worlds of both stories in the future. Whether I ever well remains to be seen, but the spirit is willing.
Ugh, hope all are feeling better from the stomach bug! Fighting one off ourselves here. Michael Shur’s book was on my list but moved up upon your recommendation. Hooray and happy anniversary to 20th Century Ghosts!!! I love your novels and am anxiously awaiting King Sorrow but man, you SHINE at the short stories. All the love from GA!
2 of the books i am looking forward to the most this year are King Sorrow and Devils (Joe Abercrombie). I wish I could make that sit down between you two in May. But unfortunately I cannot. Do you have any more information in regard to your tour dates that you can share?
Pop Art still makes me cry every time I read it
Agreed! It's my favorite story in the collection. I never get through it with dry eyes. It's on my Mt. Rushmore of short stories.

That's a long story--one I'm sure I've covered somewhere. Maybe in the intro to Full Throttle?

Happy Valentine’s Day Joe!

Omg, if they hadn’t published it, you would be, like, polishing middle school hallways.
20 years? Holy cow time flies. Congratulations on being a dad again and feel better soon.
